KulTOURa INTENSIVE LANGUAGE & CULTURE PROGRAMS

Running for at least two weeks, the SpeakWrite Intensive Language & Culture Program integrates language courses with an immersion in Philippine culture and society. The course provides the trainee with an effective mix of theory and practice in the English language as it offers one-on-one or small-group language classes and organizes cultural immersion activities where language input is reinforced. Trainees are also required to keep journals, travel blogs or video diaries so they may record their experiences and track their progress in language and communication.

 

Program Components

 

· Language Classes. To equip the trainee with language communication essentials for their chosen specialization or interests, one-on-one or small group classes of up to 3 participants are held at regular periods within the program schedule. These do not just include lectures and exercises in grammar and vocabulary but also input in cross-cultural communication.

· Cultural Immersion. To reinforce the input made in language classes, cultural immersions are organized to facilitate interaction with individuals and organizations. Immersions are organized according to specialization and interests of the trainee. Immersions vary from a tour of different Philippine communities to apprenticeship in key sectors and institutions.

· Extension Activities such as trainee’s creation of new material around the same situation. The student is given the opportunity to apply the concepts and tools discussed in classes to real-life situations.

· Language Production. The trainee’s language and communication skills are tracked and improved through regular output in the form of journals, blog entries and/or video diaries. This ensures that trainees are given adequate practice: they don’t just reinforce the language points through regular interaction with individuals and groups; they also get to chronicle their experiences in English.
